Carolyn Fowler resides in Inglewood, California. She has served on several boards and received numerous awards and recognition for her contributions by organizations, elected officials, colleagues and her community. She holds a BA in Business Administration from the University of Michigan and has also completed the Wharton Global MBA International Certificate program at University of Pennsylvania.
Ms. Fowler is currently a Professional Expert for Los Angeles Unified School District and unapologetically supports public education. Carolyn in conjunction with SLATE-Z (South LA Transportation Empowerment Zone) led the idea for a pilot on free transportation for homeless and foster youth. As a result of the collaboration with the Mayor’s office & LA Metro all LA Unified students can sign up for free fare passes including the DASH.
She has provided consulting, training, meeting facilitation, focus groups, speaking and organizational development services to nonprofits, corporations and public sector entities. Carolyn credits her accomplishments to the exceptional learning received as an AT&T Executive. She served five years as the Chief Operating Officer for The Smiley Group, Inc., a communications corporation established in support of human rights and related empowerment issues.
For over 20 years Carolyn has worked not only in her community, but also within the Democratic Party. As a CADEM party leader she serves as Lead Co-Chair of the JEDI Committee, an elected DNC member and Chair of the Women’s Caucus where she encourages more women to seek appointments and run for elected office. In addition to her service in CADEM, Carolyn has also held many positions within the Los Angeles County Democratic Party. She has served as the Election Protection Chair, Corresponding Secretary, and a member of the Finance, Anti-Harassment and Policy Committees. In each of these roles, Carolyn has defended voting rights, advocated for marginalized groups, and fought for and alongside Democrats throughout this great state.
Active in her community, she also serves on the California Senior Legislature (CSL) which annually proposes legislation in Sacramento for the state's seniors. Last year she submitted a proposal for dental preventive care in skilled nursing facilities which resulted in AB2145 signed by the governor. CSL members currently support the Governor’s Master Plan on Aging.
Additionally, Carolyn serves on LA County Voting Systems For All People Committee (VSAP), and is a founding member of California Election Protection Network. She is serving her fourth elected term as LACDP 61st Assembly District delegate, and is Past President of New Frontier Democratic Club.
This May, Carolyn wishes to take her experience from government, the business world, the nonprofit sector, and this very party to ensure CADEM’s finances align with its platform and values. She wants to ensure every member of this party is represented, and that we are fully prepared for the challenges ahead. With your support, these goals are fully within our reach. Thank you.
